The effect of related ions on the potassium requirement of lactic acid bacteria.

چکیده
The essential nature of K+ for growth of lactic acid bacteria has previously been established (1). The amount required for maximum growth seemed unusually high. Further investigation showed that the quantitative requirement for potassium was markedly influenced by the amounts of sodium and ammonium ions in the medium. These findings prompted an extension of the investigation to other alkali metal ions. The results of these studies, which provide examples of “ion antagonism” among the alkali metals and which are most readily interpreted as due to competitive inhibition of the essential role of potassium by related ions, are presented below.

متن کاملThe effect lactic acid supplementation in diet of rainbow trout on growth parameters, activity of digestive enzymes and intestinal bacterial flora
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of adding lactic acid to the diet of rainbow trout on growth indices, activity of digestive enzymes and microbial flora of the fish gastrointestinal tract. For this purpose, 4 diets containing 0, 5, 10 and 20 g of lactic acid per kg of diet were made and each diet was offered to fish in three replications for 8 weeks. The results showed that t...
متن کاملEffect of Different Lactic Acid Bacteria on Phytic Acid Content and Quality of Whole Wheat Toast Bread
ABSTRACT: Nowadays, consumption of whole flours and flours with high extraction rate is recommended, because of their large amount of fiber, vitamins and minerals. Despite nutritional benefits of whole flours, concentration of some undesirable components such as phytic acid is higher than white flour. In this study, the effect of several sourdough lactic acid bacteria on toast bread was investi...
متن کاملInhibitory Effect of Isolated Lactic Acid Bacteria from Scomberomorus commerson Intestines and their Bacteriocin on Listeria innocua
ABSTRACT- Lactic acid bacteria are commonly found in the gastrointestinal tract of various endothermic animals and humans, in milk, dairy and seafood products and on some plant surfaces. The aim of this study was to investigate the inhibitory effect of isolated lactic acid bacteria from intestines of narrow-barred Spanish mackerel (Scomberomorus commerson) on Listeria innocua growth. Five strai...
متن کاملEffect of lactic acid bacteria and the potential probiotic Hafnia alvei on growth and survival rates of narrow clawed crayfish (Astacus leptodactylus Esch., 1823) stage II juveniles
The aim of this study was to screen potential probiotic bacteria against Aeromonas hydrophila and determine the effects of antagonistic bacteria and a commercial product containing lactic acid bacteria on the survival and growth of stage II Astacus leptodactylus juveniles. For this purpose, a total of 110 bacterial strains were isolated from adult, stage II crayfish juveniles and rearing water ...
